Scheme details

Scheme details

Here at Arriva we have several different pension schemes operating across our UK Bus, UK Rail and Head Office businesses.

Choose from the drop-down menu below for contact details for the administrator of your scheme.  If you are unsure which scheme you were a member of, we have included within the drop down sections the Arriva businesses that are linked to each scheme which we hope will help you.

For employees of Arriva Rail London, Chiltern Railways and New Cross Country, the relevant scheme is:

  • Railways Pension Scheme
  • For most other Arriva UK employees, the relevant schemes are:

    • Arriva Life Assurance Scheme - most employees benefit from life assurance from this scheme as soon as they start working for Arriva
    • Arriva Workplace Pension Plan - most employees can choose to join this scheme as soon as they start working for Arriva

    Arriva Life Assurance Benefit

All Arriva employees, not Casual Workers, (excluding the Train Operating Companies, contributing members of the LNWR Section of the Railways Pension Scheme, and contributing members of The Merseyside Pension Fund *) are covered for a Life Assurance benefit, whilst they are in the employ of Arriva.  *These employees are covered for death in service benefits in accordance with membership of their own pension scheme.

Most employees benefit from Life Assurance equal to 1x Gross Earnings in the prior tax year. Some employees have higher levels of cover or different salary definitions because of having previously been in a different scheme, or because of a specific contractual agreement.  You will have been notified if this affects you.

    Expression of Wish
If you die whilst employed by Arriva, the Trustee of the Life Assurance Scheme needs to decide who to pay the benefits to.  Completing an Expression of Wish form ensures that the Trustees will take into consideration your wishes when paying out benefits to your beneficiaries.
Note - the scheme is discretionary and therefore the Expression of Wish form is for guidance to the Trustee only.

Please remember to complete a new expression of wish form whenever your personal circumstances change.

Please return this form to [email protected] or by post to Arriva Life Assurance Admin Team, 1 Admiral Way, Doxford International Business Park, Sunderland, SR3 3XP  Do not send this form to HR or payroll.

    Claims
We hope that your family never needs to make a claim, but if they do, the process is straightforward. As soon as the Depot/Payroll or HR are notified of your death your family will be provided with the relevant forms for completion.  Once the completed forms are received by the relevant parties, arrangements will be made for the claim to be processed. The Trustee may need some information from your family to help process the claim, and the scheme administrator will stay connected to help them through the process.

    Arriva Workplace Pension Plan (AWPP)

The Arriva Workplace Pension Plan (we sometimes call it the AWPP for short) is our Auto Enrolment pension scheme.

If you work for a business that is not eligible for the Railways Pension Scheme (including UK Bus, plc and Grand Central), then this is the scheme that you are eligible to join as soon as you join Arriva. In the UK, we have to automatically enrol most employees into a pension scheme and the AWPP is the scheme that we use to comply with this requirement. If we have to put you into a scheme, then we'll write to you to let you know.

The AWPP is a defined contribution scheme - that is to say that the size of your fund at retirement is directly related to how much is put in and how much investment return you get (think of the investment return like the interest on your bank account). The Standard Life website (link below) gives a summary of how the AWPP works.

Forms for this scheme are available from payroll.
